While every PCCM and CCM fellow at Henry Ford receives robust training in point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) during fellowship, the Ultrasound Track is designed for fellows who wish to be credentialed in critical care ultrasound examination after graduation. Fellows who enroll in the track will receive additional didactic and bedside education on echocardiography, thoracic, abdominal, and vascular ultrasound, and they will be expected to complete a minimum of 75 echocardiographic examinations during training, putting them on track to fulfill the 150 quality-assured echocardiographs required by the National Board of Echocardiography (NBE)in addition to passing the Examination of Special Competence in Critical Care Echocardiography (CCEeXAM) for NBE board certification in critical care echocardiography.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fellows are encouraged to enroll as early as possible but no later than September of their first (two-year fellows) or second year (three-year fellows) in order to allow for appropriate elective scheduling and will complete a minimum of two of the following electives:
– Critical Care POCUS elective (mandatory)
– Advanced Critical Care POCUS
– Echocardiography Lab
– Transesophageal Echocardiography<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fellows will also be expected to participate in clinical teaching of POCUS skills to co-fellows, residents, APPs, and\/or medical students. Fellows who enroll in the track must produce at least one piece of scholarly output – manuscript, case report, presentation, or poster (national, regional, or hospital level – including the Medical Education Research Forum).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

All bedside scans are interpreted and stored in QPATH-E and are then reviewed for quality of image acquisition and image interpretation accuracy by ultrasound faculty. This portfolio remains throughout fellowship and serves to satisfy board eligibility and hospital credentialing requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
