{"id":1073,"date":"2017-05-10T21:30:37","date_gmt":"2017-05-10T21:30:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hfhpulm.com\/info\/?p=1073"},"modified":"2018-02-16T15:20:38","modified_gmt":"2018-02-16T15:20:38","slug":"lung-cancer-screening","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hfhpulm.com\/info\/?p=1073","title":{"rendered":"Lung Cancer Screening"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The\u00a0lung cancer screening program is now fully operational on main campus.\u00a0 We continue to grow the program with the plan on having it operational throughout the entire system over the next year.<\/p>\n<p>Mike Simoff is the Medical Director and Lana Saugrich is the Administrative Director of the program.<\/p>\n<p>Any provider can\u00a0place an Epic order for\u00a0 \u201cREFER LUNG CANCER\u201d.\u00a0 By doing this your patient will be scheduled for a joint decision making conference, saving you the time in clinic.\u00a0 We will address smoking cessation in your patients that still smoke, and we will schedule the CT.\u00a0 You will receive a copy of the CT result as well as a communication regarding your case.\u00a0 Follow-up recommendations for screening will then be handled by the LCS team, you will not have to worry about communicating, scheduling, or any other issues with your patients.\u00a0 We will alert you to any issues or needed follow-up.<\/p>\n<p>If you have questions you can contact Mieke Simoff, Lana, Dr. Rolando Peralta, or email the LCS team at lungcancerscreening@hfhs.org and we will do everything we can to assist you.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>SOME MORE INFORMATION<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Attached is the <a href=\"http:\/\/hfhpulm.com\/info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Lung-Cancer-Screening-Patient-Presentation.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">presentation<\/a> that Bruno (and now our lung cancer screening NPs) provide to patients.\u00a0 Please feel free to use some or all of it when you speak with patients about lung cancer screening. \u00a0Some\u00a0additional information:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\u00a0The age cutoff in the Lung Cancer Screening order is 80.\u00a0 However, the cutoff for CMS is 77.\u00a0 So, if you are ordering the test on someone between the ages of 77 and 80, you may want to either figure out if their insurance covers it or let them know that it may not be covered and try to get it pre-authorized prior to definitively recommending it.<\/li>\n<li>If you have a patient tell you that they were charged for the test, please let Bruno know as we can investigate that.\u00a0 It should not happen.<\/li>\n<li>To order the study, you need to document that you went over the indications and had them participate in shared decision making. \u00a0Bruno uses a dot phrase for that which you can steal from him.\u00a0 It is .bdgsharednote.<\/li>\n<li>When ordering a lung cancer screening CT, you must also put in the code for \u201cvisit to determine LDCT Eligibility\u201d \u2013 G0296<\/li>\n<li>If you prefer, you can always refer patients to our lung cancer screening team who can schedule the patient for a separate visit during which they will do shared decision making and then get them a CT on the same day.
