{"id":594,"date":"2015-06-29T16:01:15","date_gmt":"2015-06-29T16:01:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hfhpulm.com\/info\/?p=594"},"modified":"2015-06-29T16:16:04","modified_gmt":"2015-06-29T16:16:04","slug":"policy-helios-intensive-care-unit-icu-protocol-pain-agitation-delirium-patients-ventilator-pad","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hfhpulm.com\/info\/?p=594","title":{"rendered":"Policy: HELIOS Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Protocol for Pain, Agitation, and Delirium for patients on the ventilator (PAD"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>PURPOSE:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The purpose of the pain, agitation, and delirium (PAD) protocol is to:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Allow bedside clinicians to manage pain, agitation and delirium for the adult ventilated ICU patient<\/li>\n<li>Guide the provider when ordering medications for pain, agitation and delirium.<\/li>\n<li>Provide appropriate and safe dosing and monitoring guidelines.<\/li>\n<li>Decrease adverse drug events related to medications in this protocol<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The goal of the protocol is to:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Assess and treat pain and agitation using the Critical Care Pain Observation Tool (CPOT).<\/li>\n<li>Maintain CPOT score less than 2.<\/li>\n<li>Decrease the incidence of delirium by minimizing benzodiazapam use.<\/li>\n<li>Treat delirium in ventilated patient with appropriate medications.<\/li>\n<li>Decrease ventilator time, decrease ICU length of stay, and provide a means to adjust medications based on the patient\u2019s CPOT.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Full POLICY: <a href=\"http:\/\/hfhpulm.com\/info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/HFHS-PAD-Guidelines-IV.docx\">HFHS PAD Guidelines IV<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PURPOSE: The purpose of the pain, agitation, and delirium (PAD) protocol is to: Allow bedside clinicians to manage pain, agitation and delirium for the adult ventilated ICU patient Guide the provider when ordering medications for pain, agitation and delirium.
