If a sweat chloride test needs to be performed to help workup a patient with bronchiectasis (to rule in/out cystic fibrosis):
To set up the test
- The provider or the patient can call the main number at the Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Center at the Children’s Hospital of Michigan (313-745-5541)
- Appointments are made for Monday and Wednesday mornings.
- Please give the patient a written prescription that states “sweat chloride test for Cystic Fibrosis”. They will need to bring the prescription and insurance information to the appointment.
- The test is performed on the 3rd floor of the specialty clinic, 3950 Beaubien Blvd (across the street from Detroit Receiving Hospital).
- The results will be given to the provider—they will not be released directly to the patient
- Test results are usually available the afternoon after the test. You can call to get the result quickly.
