The EPIC order is called ‘Consult to Interstitial Lung Disease’ (I will see if ‘pulmonary’ can be added to make this easier to find).
The order includes text with the devoted pager number (0694). The pager number will also be included at the end of all of the ILD inpatient notes.
If there is any confusion, the general consult and ILD fellow will help sort out, with the ILD staff, the appropriate service to see the patient.
This really does not create any additional coverage for anyone – just makes it easier to find some ILD help.
Questions you may have
What inpatient staff? Isn’t there just Thavarajah?
Yes, while Jennings will continue to see ILD patients in clinic, to continue to devote enough time to research efforts for the fellows, he will not be staffing inpatient ILD consults. Dr. Abu Sayf joins the team in summer 2018.
If the patient is on F2 or MICU, staff or fellow can call me directly to review any urgent cases on weekends or overnight (I would encourage that the residents discuss these with the ICU fellow or F2 staff before involving me on a patient new to ILD service).
Who covers the pager?
ILD Fellow and staff will take care of all forwarding.
Weekdays – ILD fellow/staff
During fellow clinic – ILD staff
Weeknights – ILD staff
Weekends – F2/consult staff (who can call me with any questions, this is not a change from prior).
What about clinic calls overnight?
Good question – for now it will be the F2 staff.
Who covers when Thavarajah is away?
Pager is forwarded to general consult pager (this is <3 weeks out of 6 months). Again, this is not a change from prior and I will communicate this directly to the rounders when I will be away.
