With the long waiting times to get patients into Sleep Clinic, Luisa has provided some tips you can do on your clinic visit to expedite this. There are only 3 very easy steps you need to do.
Step one:
in your note use this dot phrase: .sleeprequirements
This info in your clinic note will be used by Sleep to get prior auth for the sleep study. It contais such thigns as the BANG score, fall risk and other items required for ordering the Sleep study.
Step 2:
You need documentation in the chart that treatment with CPAP has been discussed. In the future we may be able to get this sentence put into the dot phrase but for now it has to be manually put into your note.
Step 3
Order “General Sleep Study”.
The advantage of this is that the sleep study order will be evaluated by Luisa and if ordered, she will also interpret the results for you.
In most cases, this precludes the need for a full-fledged sleep clinic referral which can take up to three months or more.
