MICU Collaborative: September 2014

–       Infection Control

  • Year-to-date BSI are approaching total for last year.  This will be reviewed at ICC. More to follow.

–       MICU Visiting Hour Pilot

  • Targetting start date on Nov 1st.
  • Patient Support Advocate (PSA) will be identified who can be present 24/7.  More specifics/education to follow.
  • Interviewing for attendants to manage waiting room and assignment of PSAs

–       Quality Rounds

  • Feedback – concerns about timeliness of start, inefficiency of walk rounds
  • Will move AM Quality Rounds to Huddle Board.  Change will start on Monday 10/6.

–       ICU Classroom update

  • New wall LCD monitor ordered to replace projector.
  • Room update will occur as well – new tables, chairs, painting, and furniture so that room can be multi purpose for family meetings.

–       Census/Triage Update

 

–       Ultrasound Machine Update

  • New machines ordered from Sonosite
    • Three upright vascular (assigned to Pods 1, 2, and 4)
    • Two multipurpose machines (Exporte) with integrated educational modules (Pod 5, and 4th floor on call from charge nurse).
      • The Exporte on the 4th floor is to be used by staff/fellows.  Residents will not be able to check out unless supervised by fellow or staff.

–       Respiratory Therapy

  • Trial of Hamilton Ventilators occurring on Pods 5 and 6W
  • Start: this week; complete at end of October
  • Education TBA
  • Intubation bronchoscopes. More to follow. Will plan education after arrival.
