PROCESS
- Halo will be used for text message alerts to sign death certificates
- Nocturnists are now able to support the process, not having to solely rely on day shift support
- All Hospice and Pulmonary physicians are expected to use the electronic death certificate process through the state of Michigan beginning Monday, June 8, 2020.
- Upon go-live of this pilot, support staff will fill out each death certificate and will notify the physician when a certificate is ready to be signed.
- Physicians must log onto Michigan EDRS, electronically sign the death certificate and notify support staff upon completion.
- Notification is important to assist in tracking completion time for death certification
- This document shows physicians a step-by-step key on how to validate and certify a death certificate
Per physician leaders, at times you may be in meetings, on vacation, etc., and you may be asked to sign the death certificate for a colleague who is away–please do so.
This is one of our shared responsibilities even when not required for an expedited burial.
This process will be extended to other specialties as HF moves to a more automated process and eliminate manual efforts.
