From Dr. Swiderek:
Due to high MICU patient volume and MICU remaining over capacity, the SICU and MICU teams have been working on a plan to redistribute patients with non-cirrhotic GI bleeds to the SICU. The goal is to open up MICU beds and to allow for a more consistent patient population to be admitted to the SICU that will help with nursing, resident and fellow education and overall patient care. We hope by doing this that patients with respiratory failure and those being admitted for a level of care transfers will actually be admitted to the MICU and taken care of by a MICU team as opposed to being placed on the SICU service. We will continue to manage all patients with cirrhosis and GI bleeds and any patient already admitted to the MICU who subsequently develops a GI bleed.
